Event Description
Join Anastasia for this discussion of her BC TEAL 2023 Conference session: Courage to Care: Trauma-Informed Practice in Education.

Conference Session Description:
As educators, we know that every student comes to class with a unique set of circumstances that may impact their ability to learn, including the experience of trauma. Implementing trauma-informed practice involves understanding the impact of trauma on individuals and communities, and taking steps to create a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel seen, heard, and supported. It takes courage and empathy to adopt this approach, but the benefits are immeasurable. By fostering a supportive atmosphere, educators can empower students to build resilience, recover from past trauma, and achieve success both academically and personally.

Established in 1975, Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS) is a leader in the delivery of trauma-informed English language learning for immigrant and refugee women and their children. Their approach is grounded in community work, listening wholeheartedly to the students and responding to their needs with compassion, courage, and accountability.
